Meet the powerhouse, Dr. Shamarah J. Hutchins, a beacon of resilience and accomplishment in the field of mental health. Raised by her maternal grandmother, her journey began with a commitment to combat chemical dependency, fueled by her personal experiences with parents facing the same challenges. Defying statistical odds, Dr. Hutchins excelled academically, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Wilberforce University, where she also shone as a collegiate athlete.
Armed with a Master’s in Psychology from Capella University and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Walden University, Dr. Hutchins channels her expertise as a College Professor and a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency License (LICDC) holder, specializing in substance use therapy. Her dedication extends beyond academics, having served as the assistant basketball coach for Maple Heights High School and contributing to various advisory boards, including the Warrensville Developmental Center and The TJ Carrie Foundation.
As a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., Dr. Hutchins wears multiple hats, but her roles as a wife and mother remain her greatest accomplishments. Grounded in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and a person-centered approach, she founded Serene Counseling & Wellness, LLC, aiming to revolutionize mental health with a focus on women's self-esteem, mindset training for entrepreneurs, and support for athletes.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Dr. Hutchins is on a mission to change the game of mental health in both life and sports. Her multifaceted approach, from academia to counseling and community engagement, reflects a commitment to holistic well-being.
